According to Aljazeera TV, a resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC) that aimed to facilitate the full membership of the state of Palestine at the United Nations as expected has been vetoed by the United States, despite receiving broad support.

During a session at the Security Council in New York, the resolution garnered the support of twelve countries. However, two nations, namely Britain and Switzerland, chose to abstain from voting on the resolution.

The repeated instances of the US vetoing ceasefire resolutions to address Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the past six months are deeply troubling. Despite widespread international condemnation and calls for peace, the US has obstructed the diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the violence and protecting innocent lives. This obstructionist approach directly undermines the principles of justice and the pursuit of peaceful resolutions within the international community.

This comes While Afghanistan, a country that has been suffering by unjust wars and bloodsheds of the westerns powers for the last 4 decades has been deprived of its legitimate right of representation at UN, mainly due to the policies and influences of US and hence UN platform is continuously used as political pressure against Afghanistan.

The United States’ refusal to support Palestinian state membership at the UN further exacerbates the issue. This stance denies the Palestinian people their right to self-determination and undermines the legitimacy of their aspirations for statehood same as denying the rights of the people of Afghan nation it is a glaring example of how geopolitical considerations can outweigh the principles of justice, equality, and the rights of an oppressed nations.

The US has long presented itself as a champion of human rights, promoting democratic values and freedom across the globe. However, these claims stand in stark contrast to its actions in supporting terrorism, particularly in Muslim countries, over the past four decades. The US’s historical alliances and covert operations have often fueled conflicts and contributed to the destabilization of nations, leading to immense suffering for innocent civilians.

The glaring double standards in US foreign policy become apparent when examining its approach to terrorism. While publicly condemning acts of terrorism, the US has been known to support and arm groups that align with its strategic interests, often disregarding the human rights abuses committed by these groups. This selective support undermines the credibility of the US as a genuine advocate for global security and stability.

The US’s ongoing blocking of Palestinian state membership at the UN, along with its efforts of not allocating the legitimate right of the Afghan people of having its true representation as well as supporting terrorism in Muslim countries, raises serious concerns about its commitment to justice, equality, and human rights. The international community must emphasize the importance of impartiality, diplomacy, and respecting the rights of all nations and peoples. True progress can only be achieved when nations set aside political agendas and work towards genuine peace, allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establishing a more just and equitable world.
