Last week was quite up and down for Afghanistan, as a devastating earthquake in Herat resulted in numerous injuries and martyrdoms, causing immense distress for the country.

In the early hours of this incident, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan issued an order instructing all civil and military entities to use all of their authority to assist the earthquake victims while also expressing its sympathies. On the other hand, the Herat provincial officials and the Minister of Public Health have been in the region since the start of the crisis to assist the locals. The IEA’s economic deputy prime minister, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund traveled to Herat to see the victims and offer consolation.

IEA officials, including the officials of the Ministry of Defense, Interior, Public Health, Afghan Red Crescent, Herat Governor, police chief of this province and other officials of the relevant departments were present in the area and provided services to the people of Herat with all their strength.

On the other hand, at the end of last week, the first phase of the large and historical project of Qushtepa Canal was completed and the second phase was inaugurated. A meeting held for the ceremony was attended by high-ranking IEA officials, including the economic deputy prime minister, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the administrative deputy prime minister, Mawlawi Abdulsalam Hanafi, the Minister of Defense of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Muhammad Yaqub Mujahid, the Minister of Interior of the Islamic Emirate, Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani General Intelligence Director Mullah Abdulhaq Wathiq and other ministers and officials.

The fact that this canal irrigates and cultivates hundreds of acres of dry land demonstrates the significance of this major undertaking. By cultivating these fields, wheat and other legume imports would be reduced, and Afghanistan will be self-sufficient in this area as well as providing numerous young people employment opportunities, and the northwest region of the nation will be developed.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is dedicated to the country’s prosperity and self-sufficiency in a number of areas, and it has demonstrably shown that just as it has ensured security, it will make numerous additional efforts in the economic and commercial sphere so that our nation can compete with other nations around the world.
