Public welfare, natural resource management, and Afghanistan’s economic self-sufficiency have constituted imperative priorities of the governing regime in the country. Officials diligently strive to take effective and pragmatic steps towards the attainment of these paramount objectives. Despite diverse economic and political sanctions imposed by the international community upon the Islamic Emirate, authorities have earnestly endeavored to eradicate corruption, activate revenue streams, and leverage available resources to expedite the resumption of unfinished projects while embarking on new developmental initiatives within the nation.

One such initiative involves the resumption of construction activities of the Pashdan dam in Herat province. Situated 25 kilometers from the city of Herat, this dam boasts a capacity to store 45 million cubic meters of water, generate 2 megawatts of electricity, and irrigate 13 thousand hectares of agricultural land. Initiated in the year 2011 by the erstwhile government, progress on the dam was curtailed after achieving a 30% milestone due to multifaceted reasons.

This project, pivotal in fostering the country’s economic growth and directly impacts the social and economic life of the people, recently recommenced its pending activities in the presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, alongside dignitaries and high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate and representatives from the private sector.

The inertia of incumbent authorities towards the implementation of developmental projects, compounded by two decades of occupation, conflict, instability, and climatic change, has notably impeded Afghanistan’s progress across political and economic domains, precipitating manifold obstacles and challenges.

With the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, concerted endeavors towards Afghanistan’s economic self-reliance have been initiated, underpinned by the firm determination of officials. Prominent among these endeavors are measures encompassing comprehensive national security provisioning, prudent natural resource stewardship, and facilitation of investment inflows, all constituting effective strides towards fostering the country’s economic expansion and engendering palpable societal and economic transformations.

During the last three years, the Islamic Emirate has proactively advanced across all fronts, including ensuring nationwide security, providing necessary facilities for delivering services to citizens, significantly reducing corruption in government institutions, ensuring transparency in revenue collection, eliminating cultivation, production, smuggling, and use of narcotics, initiating rehabilitation for addicts, distributing humanitarian aid to vulnerable individuals, prioritization of care towards orphans, disabled persons, and martyrs’ families, as well as the commencement of several projects spanning economic, infrastructural, and developmental realms countrywide.

The successful completion of such developmental and infrastructural endeavors holds promise in bolstering the country’s economic trajectory, engendering employment opportunities, and galvanizing domestic and foreign investor confidence in Afghanistan’s investment landscape.

The Islamic Emirate is committed to adopting sound policies and making optimal use of existing opportunities for Afghanistan’s prosperity, progress, and self-sufficiency, with the ultimate goal of liberating Afghanistan from economic interdependencies and positioning it as an independent, dignified, and proud country on the regional and global stage, contributing significantly to the region’s progress, stability, and advancement.
