KABUL, Dec. 10 – The Ministry of Higher Education has commenced the construction of a state-of-the-art 250-bed national cancer diagnosis and treatment center, with a budget of 429 million Afghanis. The center, located at the Aliabad Teaching Hospital of Kabul University of Medical Sciences, is set to be completed by the year 1403.

According to officials from Kabul University of Medical Sciences, the construction and rehabilitation project of cancer diagnostic and treatment center was initially initiated in 2007, with financial support from the International Atomic Energy Agency. However, due to various issues and insufficient funds, the project was subsequently halted, leaving the center in a state of suspension.

This cancer diagnosis and treatment center holds immense significance as it is the sole facility of its kind in the country, effectively eliminating the need for thousands of cancer patients to seek treatment abroad. Consequently, Afghan citizens will be spared from incurring significant expenses associated with cancer treatment overseas.

It is noteworthy that the Aliabad Teaching Hospital currently employs 14 specialists in the field of cancer care. In addition to their role in educating young doctors, these experts provide vital healthcare services to cancer patients, ensuring comprehensive and quality treatment within the hospital’s premises.
