With the return of the Islamic Emirate, serious and sincere efforts have begun in various fields with the aim of moving Afghanistan forward towards self-sufficiency and creating conditions of a prosperous life for fellow countrymen.

In addition to the diligent efforts in political, military, security, social, and other sectors, officials of the Islamic Emirate have prioritized the country’s economic sector. They have firmly committed to connecting Afghanistan with regional countries through the implementation of national and regional projects, improving the country’s economy, as well as providing jobs and economic opportunities for the people.

One of these efforts is the restart of the CASA-1000 project.

CASA-1000 is a large-scale electricity and energy transmission project through which surplus electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be transferred to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The CASA-1000 project enters Afghanistan through the Sher Khan port and connects to Pakistan via Torkham, passing through provinces such as Kunduz, Balkh, Panjshir, Kapisa, Kabul, Laghman, and Nangarhar.

According to officials of the Islamic Emirate, it is planned to commence the implementation of this vital project in April 2024 with the financial support of the World Bank. Officials state that the agreement for the implementation of this project has been signed among Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, and detailed discussions have also been conducted to better adapt this project in terms of regional aspects.

Based on this agreement, 300 megawatts of electricity will be transferred to Afghanistan and 1000 megawatts to Pakistan once the project is implemented.

Economic analysts believe that the CASA-1000 project will not only create favorable opportunities in the country and play a key role in strengthening Afghanistan’s economic ties with regional countries but will also make Afghanistan the first electricity transmission corridor in the region.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is committed to creating necessary opportunities for economic growth and strengthening interactions with regional countries via implementing major projects.

According to information, the progress of the CASA-1000 project is 97% in Kyrgyzstan, 70% in Tajikistan, 30% in Afghanistan, and 50% in Pakistan and the remaining work will kick off in April this year. By implementing CASA-1000, Afghanistan will receive an annual transit fee of approximately $45 million in addition to obtaining 300 megawatts of electricity.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, understanding the importance of implementing large regional projects such as CASA-1000, TAPI, TAP, the Silk Road railway, and similar initiatives and their benefits to Afghanistan and regional countries, is committed to executing these major projects.

The Qosh Tepa canal is one of the largest domestic projects in Afghanistan, which has made significant progress in the past two years, and projects like CASA-1000 and TAPI, which are among the regional development projects, are underway.

The Islamic Emirate is committed to creating conditions for economic self-sufficiency in Afghanistan through the implementation of national and developmental projects and has begun sincere efforts for a prosperous, developed and dignified Afghanistan.
