HELMAND, Nov. 11 – Earlier in the day, Helmand Governor Maulvi Abdul Ahad (Talib) arrived in Marjah district with a delegation and attended a large gathering of the people at the mosque of Lo Charahi area in the said district.

The meeting was attended by Maulvi Abdul Hai Omari, Acting Director of Amr-ul-Ma’ruf and Nahi An-Munkar of Helmand, Haji Hussaini, District Governor of Marjah, Qari Muslim, Police Chief, a number of Sheikhs and religious scholars, officials, Mujahideen, tribal elders and general public. Mawlawi Abdul Jalil, the Khatib of Jamia Masjid, started the proceedings of the meeting by reciting some verses from the Holy Quran.

Afterwards, the Governor of Helmand, Mr. Talib Maulvi Sahib, addressing the participants of the meeting, said that we have not fulfilled your rights as your officials. Your rights are too many for us to exercise. “Even though we strive day and night to work for your prosperity, development, rehabilitation and self-sufficiency, we have not been able to do as much as you are entitled to,” he said. He apologized to the people.

The Governor said that we will never forget your sacrifices and the blood of your martyrs. And we will never leave you alone. We will always be by your side. And none of you would hesitate to cooperate.

He emphasized that the Mujahideen would do their utmost for the better security of the people, and would be committed to cooperating at all costs to provide a better life for the people. Mawlawi Sahib also called on the Mujahideen to organize their ranks and refrain from associating with hateful people. He called the intellectual training of the people a duty of the Ulema, and encouraged the Ulema to fight to the best of their ability to reform the beliefs of the people.

The meeting ended with the closing prayer of Shaykh-ul-Hadeeth Maulvi Amanullah Haqqani.
