PAKTIKA, Aug. 19 – ARCS constructed 65 houses in Tashniki and Shiro Ragha areas of Gyan District in Paktika Province. These houses were equipped with new beds, floors, utensils, solar power systems, food items, and other accessories provided by Afghan Red Crescent.

These homes were handed over to families affected by last year’s powerful earthquake, which destroyed their houses. The handover ceremony was presided over by Acting General President Mr. Maulvi Mutiul Haq Khalis.

During yesterday’s house handover ceremony, Mr. Maulvi Mutiul Haq Khalis Acting General President of Afghan Red Crescent, addressed the attendees, saying, “The impact of the earthquake in Paktika and Khost surpassed regional boundaries, affecting both Afghans and the international community. This shared pain unites the entire nation.

Referring to his first visit to the region on August 1st, he stated, “After the earthquake, we arrived the region and committed to constructing homes for the families affected by the disaster. Our assistance continues, and we are dedicated to their ongoing support.

Up to now, 583 families in the Gyan district have received cash aid exceeding 200,000 AFN per household to repair their earthquake-damaged homes. In terms of construction, a total of 258 houses were planned, out of which 65 are now completed and ready for handover to deserving recipients.”

He extended his gratitude to Turkish Red Crescent for covering the construction expenses of these houses.

Ayub Uzda, the representative of the Turkish Red Crescent, addressed the gathering, stating, “We shared in the sorrow of the Paktika residents impacted by last year’s earthquake. Our presence in the region allowed us to connect with the earthquake survivors; the Turkish people are committed to continuously aiding and assisting the Afghan community.”
