Countrywide Protests Held Over Desecration of Holy Quran

KABUL, Jan. 28 – Tens and Thousands of people across the country have took it to streets the burning and tearing of the Quran in Sweden and the Netherlands.

Earlier, Rasmus Paludan, who leads the Danish far-right political party Hard Line burned a copy of the Holy Quran in front of Turkey’s embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.

After these incidents, the leader of the extremist anti-Islam group Pegida in the Netherlands, Edwin Wagensfeld, tore up pages and burned another copy of the Holy Quran in the city of Den Haag, under the protection of the Dutch police, according to the international media.

“We don’t have even a slight tolerance for disrespecting our holy books, particularly the holy Quran,” said Sultan Bik, head of the religious clerics of Kabul.

“They (protestors) have been gathered to defend the words of Allah. Whoever has committed it (burned the holy Quran) is a pagan,” said Nooruddin, a religious cleric.

The protestors called on the Swedish government to prosecute the people who burned the copy of the holy Quran.

“The crime that has happened, its perpetrators should be prosecuted, so the Muslims will not be provoked in the future,” said Javid Momand, a university instructor.

“The people of Kabul have gathered in Eid-Gah Mosque and condemned this action against the human and Islamic laws,” said Sayed Qarib Sadaat, former head of the Logar provincial council.

The protests were also in the provinces of Baghlan, Balkh, Badghis and Nimroz.

“This action brings unity among the Muslims and raises hatred against the pagans,” said Matiullah Muttaqi, head of the provincial department of information and culture.

“We strongly condemn it and will not allow anyone to humiliate the holy Quran and humanity,” said Mujeeb Rahman, a resident of Nimroz.

“Those who call themselves the supporters and defenders of human rights and democracy, they today humiliated our religion. We have not humiliated anyone’s religion and will not allow anyone to do so,” said Ilham Nabizada, a resident of Baghlan.

As islamophobia increases such incidents faced widespread reactions from several countries around the world.
