The officie of economic deputy prime minister reports that this year, wheat was cultivated across 2.14 million hectares nationwide, yielding a total harvest of 4.9 million tons. This represents a 13% increase compared to the previous year.
The rise in production has been attributed to various initiatives aimed at supporting farmers, including the distribution of improved seeds, chemical fertilizers, and agricultural medications.
Additionally, the construction of small water reservoirs in different regions, the transition from poppy cultivation to wheat as an alternative crop, wheat exports, crackdowns on smuggling, utilization of silos for indoor wheat storage, fair purchase of surplus wheat from farmers, and a six percent expansion in wheat cultivation compared to the previous year have been cited as contributing factors to the enhanced yield.
