KABUL, Sep. 10 – 42 water supply projects worth 160 million AFN have been completed and put into exploitation in 20 provinces during last year, said officials of the Ministry of Rural Development and Reconstruction. Mufti Sayed Ahmed Mastaqeem, the deputy of the Ministry of Rural Development and Reconstruction, shared details about the one-year accomplishment of the Ministry in government accountability program to the nation on Sunday.
In a press briefing at the government media and information center he said the Ministry completed, 42 water supply projects worth 160 million AFN and commissioned in 20 provinces in the past one year. The projects were completed in cooperation of Ministries of Education and Public Health, with the financial support of UNICEF he added.
He went on saying that 45 water supply projects worth 195 million AFN are under construction in 15 provinces and facilities have been provided to irrigate 1,000 tons of land.
According to details, the MiyanKow Dam in Kandahar city has a capacity of one million cubic-meter has been built. 6.3 km road asphalt work worth 65 million AFN has been completed in Nadir Shah Kot district of Khost and the technical survey and design of 3 km asphalt road in Farooqabad area of Kabul has been completed.
The Ministry conducted a technical survey of the irrigation dam in Tagab district of Kapisa province for the purpose of generating electricity and constructing a canal, and six Projects have been implemented, which projects will provide safe drinkable water and other health facilities have been provided to about 10,600 students in the province, said the Ministry on his report.
In cooperation with 30 organizations supply project worth $69 to be implemented in 34 provinces of the country. 44 memorandums of understanding have been signed with partner organizations to provide people with access to safe drinkable water, of which around two million tons of safe water will be used.
100 irrigation canal projects worth 300 million AFN are being implemented with non-governmental organizations, in Dand and Daman districts of Kandahar, as well as in Farah, Badghis, Kunduz, Baghlan and Logar provinces, the deputy of the ministry said.
The deputy of the Ministry said that 6,500 completed projects funded by the World Bank are closed in 34 provinces and efforts are underway to start the work of these projects.
In a year, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development has also distributed food and non-food items to families affected by earthquakes and floods in cooperation with aid organizations, he added.
