The latest research report by the United Nations Political Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) claims that Taliban forces have intensified the harassment of women in public spaces, resulting in 70% of women being afraid to leave their homes due to such harassment.

In response to this report, Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, dismisses it as unfounded and biased. He accuses UNAMA, along with other external mandated entities, of creating anxiety among Afghan women and exaggerating the issues. He asserts that no arrests have been made and no individuals are imprisoned for violating the hijab.

Mujahid points out that these allegations are far from the reality in Afghanistan, where people are focused on their daily lives and benefitting from the blessings of peace and security in their cities, markets, and homes. He highlights that Afghan girls consider the hijab as an integral part of their faith and observe it with pride.

He further emphasizes that this is not the first time UNAMA has published reports based on fake online discourses, biased information, and planned documentation with external mandated entities. Mujahid accuses UNAMA of repeatedly violating its mission’s purpose, which is to address the humanitarian crisis and achieve sustainable peace and stability. He claims that UNAMA fails to cover important issues such as restrictions and violations of women’s rights, lack of freedom, illegal killings, mistreatment of ethnic minorities, and arbitrary arrests of women. He suggests that biased and obligated circles are behind the preparation and official publication of such reports through UNAMA.

The continuous dissemination of baseless information and incomplete actions by UNAMA has led many to question the mission’s purpose. Some even wonder if UNAMA serves as a network for those who wish ill upon the Afghan population or if it is simply an inefficient and imitative representation influenced by biased circles, negative propaganda, and unfounded statements that align with external currents’ biased and illegitimate demands.
