During the “Cultural Unity” meeting in St. Petersburg on Friday (10th of Rabi al-Awwal 1446), the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Alhaj Mullah Khairullah Khairkhah, engaged with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Culture, Mr. Azadbekif, emphasizing Afghanistan’s commitment to enhancing cultural ties, expanding the tourism sector, and promoting handicrafts between the two nations.

 

Mr. Khairkhah underscored the religious, historical, and cultural affinities shared by Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, highlighting the significance of bolstering tourism exchanges. He noted Afghanistan’s improved security post the 40-year conflict, making it ripe for tourism, both foreign and domestic. Proposals included organizing exhibitions in Kabul and Tashkent to promote cross-cultural understanding.

 

The Minister of Information and Culture also spotlighted Samarkand and Bukhara in Uzbekistan, renowned centers associated with scholars like Imam Bukhari (RA) and Imam Tirmidhi (RA), pioneers in various scientific fields, particularly Hadith studies.

 

In response, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Culture, Mr. Azadbekif, stressed the current opportune moment for deepening political and cultural ties, suggesting mutual sharing of experiences. He highlighted how tourism fosters friendship, cooperation, and economic growth, asserting its pivotal role in nurturing robust bilateral relations.

 

Both ministers concluded by affirming the importance of mutual exchange of insights and practices within the tourism domain, recognizing tourism as a linchpin in advancing cultural, economic, and political connections between the two nations.
