The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, conducted an online meeting from his office with Ms. Hanan Al-Balkhi, the Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Edwin Ceniza Salvador, the WHO Representative for Afghanistan, and Dr. Hamed Jafari, the Director of Polio Eradication for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, says a statement of the ministry of public health.

 

Minister Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali highlighted several key points, including the expansion of healthcare services, the enhancement of healthcare personnel’s capabilities, the provision of medical services in distant and under-served areas, and the prevention of contagious diseases.

He elaborated on the significance of both immediate and long-term support, particularly emphasizing the necessity of developmental and sustainable aid, which he deemed crucial for the progress of the healthcare system. On the other side, Ms. Al-Balkhi, the WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, stressed the importance of mobilizing international support for Afghanistan’s healthcare system. She underscored the need for continued and foundational efforts, expressing her commitment to full cooperation in the further improvement of Afghanistan’s healthcare infrastructure.
