The office of Economic deputy prime minister highlights that the region’s most extensive gas transmission initiative, the TAPI project, is nearing start of its operational status.

Recognizing Afghanistan as the most proximate and secure pathway for transit and energy exchange between Central and South Asia, the Islamic Emirate underscores the nation’s strategic position bridging energy-abundant Central Asia with energy-deficient South Asia.

The TAPI project, traversing Afghanistan, is set to commence practical operations in the country shortly, fostering job creation, catalyzing economic advancement, and generating transit revenues for national prosperity.

Spanning approximately 1,814 kilometers, the TAPI pipeline routes 816 kilometers through Afghan terrain. Originating in Turkmenistan, the pipeline crosses Afghanistan, passing through Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, and Kandahar provinces en route to Pakistan and ultimately India.

With an annual gas capacity of 33 billion cubic meters, the pipeline allocates 5 billion cubic meters for Afghanistan, while the remainder, 14-14 billion cubic meters, will be utilized by Pakistan and India.
