Statement of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in Response to the Recent World Bank Report on Afghanistan
The World Bank recently released a comprehensive report on Afghanistan’s economic landscape, dated May 30, 2023. This report provides a factual assessment of Afghanistan’s economic conditions. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan acknowledges and appreciates the accurate portrayal of facts presented in the report.
The report vividly portrays the economic dynamics of the nation, as illuminated by the World Bank. Among the notable findings, the report indicates a decline in the prices of essential commodities such as food and fuel.
The Afghan currency, the Afghani, has demonstrated stability against foreign currencies. Import and national income levels have experienced an upward trend alongside increased exports. Moreover, government employees have received timely salary payments.
Notably, there has been an increase in domestic food production, and withdrawal from bank accounts has been improved. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan firmly believes that positive engagement from the international community can significantly contribute to the nation’s further economic development, thus alleviating the burden on the international community itself.
If international organizations, such as the World Bank, accurately depict the reality of Afghanistan, it will not only foster a more nuanced understanding of the country’s situation but also pave the way for constructive interaction with the Islamic Emirate. In this spirit, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan earnestly calls upon all international organizations and humanitarian agencies to collaborate with the Islamic Emirate in the process of Afghanistan’s reconstruction. By joining forces, we can collectively combat unemployment and catalyze a more favorable economic environment within the country. Furthermore, the Islamic Emirate urges the World Bank, beyond disseminating factual information, to resume and complete projects that were previously financed by the organization.
