Statement of Islamic Emirate regarding recent remarks of Iranian President

On thursday, the President of Iran made a statements about Helmand’s water, which we explain below.

The water agreement between Iran and Afghanistan was established in 1351 AD, and it is still in effect today. The Islamic Emirate is determined to keeping its end of the bargain.

Recent years have seen a terrible drought in Afghanistan and the region. As a result, the water table has dropped, several of our provinces, including the Helmand River, are experiencing drought, and there is a lack of water.

The Iranian side’s repeated requests for water under such circumstances, followed by a string of irresponsible media pronouncements, are damaging.

The Iranian authorities should first complete their information about Helmand’s water through legal means, and then present their request in suitable words, if the reality has not been properly studied, and such statements are coming forward that can spoil the political atmosphere between  brother people and Muslim countrie which is not beneficial for any purpose and it should not be repeated.

The Islamic Emirate promises once again that in view of the Helmand water agreement, it will do its best to release the promised water to the Iranian people, but on the condition that our water reserves reach to that level If we release it to Iran, then it will travel hundreds of kilometers in the dry river of Helmand and reach Iran as currently, there is no water in the Kamal Khan dam, and if the water from the Kajaki dam is released, it will not reach there. Therefore, it is important that the Iranian side understands these facts.
