The Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA) has officially commenced its operations in Balkh. During the inauguration ceremony, the Director General of the National Food and Drug Administration stated that the agency’s primary objective is to regulate all food and medicine within the country, ensuring the provision of high-quality services to the public. The agency is fully committed to making diligent efforts in this regard.

Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, esteemed director general, further mentioned that annually, medicines worth one billion Afghanis are procured. Following this, public funds are directed towards ensuring access to nutritious food rather than solely on medication. Currently, there are 76 prominent pharmaceutical factories operating in the country, and it is anticipated that an additional six large factories will be established in the coming year.
