With financial backing from Ghazni Municipality and the United Nations Office for Project Services the canal, with a total cost of 8 million Afghanis, is now 95 percent complete.
Esmatullah, the engineer overseeing the project, mentioned that initiated by the Municipality two months ago, the project is on the verge of completion and is expected to be finished in the coming days. This canal spans 350 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 3 meters in depth, starting from the Civil Hospital Road and linking to the Bazaar Canal, which will help regulate groundwater levels.
Furthermore, the construction of this canal will serve to prevent flooding around the Civil Hospital and nearby roads, as well as curb the rapid deterioration of road infrastructure. Upon the successful conclusion of this endeavor, a multitude of urban and social issues will be alleviated for the inhabitants of Khwaja Baqal and Shamir Sahib.
