Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs, recently engaged in a meeting with Mr. Robert Dixon, the British Chargé d’Affaires, to deliberate on pivotal matters concerning Afghan refugees, humanitarian aid, and fostering collaboration between the Islamic Emirate and the global community.
During this significant encounter, Mr. Dixon conveyed his contentment regarding a forthcoming proposal within the United Nations concerning Afghanistan, slated to be shared with Islamic Emirate officials in the near future. This proposal, crafted to fortify ties with Afghanistan, ensure security, and encompass other favorable aspects, was underscored as a document in which Britain played a pivotal role in its formulation.
Emphasizing Britain’s commitment to aiding Afghans and upholding enduring relations with Afghanistan, Mr. Dixon articulated efforts to prioritize Afghanistan on the United Nations agenda once more.
Additionally, he highlighted the pressing need for coordinated action in addressing the humanitarian challenges posed by the influx of refugees returning from Pakistan.
Moreover, Mr. Dixon affirmed the UK’s increased humanitarian assistance by £7.5 million to bolster support for Afghan refugees and underscored the necessity for Afghanistan’s neighbors to facilitate the dignified return of refugees through a standardized process.
In response, Minister Abdul Kabir expressed gratitude for the UK’s support and advocated for heightened international backing for the repatriation of Afghan refugees. He affirmed the Islamic Emirate’s dedication to nurturing positive relations with European nations, particularly Britain, grounded in an economy-focused approach to avert misunderstandings.
Highlighting the Islamic Emirate’s endeavors over the past three and a half years to fortify domestic institutions and expand global political and economic ties, Minister Abdul Kabir detailed aspirations to position Afghanistan as a pivotal transit hub in the region. He expounded on the Islamic Emirate’s economic-centric foreign policy, aimed at fostering regional development through trade, investment, and stability.
Expressing profound distress over the ill-treatment of Afghan refugees by Pakistan, Minister Abdul Kabir decried the violation of Islamic and human values, migration principles, and international humanitarian laws. He elucidated the Islamic Emirate’s initiatives in preparing for the efficient management of returning refugees, earmarking 46 towns across the nation for this purpose with the aim of encouraging voluntary return through emergency aid provisions.
Minister Abdul Kabir urged the international community to collaborate with the Islamic Emirate in activating these towns and play a proactive role in averting the forced expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan. Concluding the discourse, he assured that the Islamic Emirate remains steadfast in its commitment to effectively managing, settling, and safeguarding the rights of returning refugees.
