According to Islamic history, Almighty Allah has always bestowed glories and victories on believers in the month of Ramadan. Mujahideen have achieved tremendous victories and their enemies suffered crushing blows in this month. Moreover, they faced debasement. This is now a part of the history. The Mujahideen who practice fasting are blessed by Almighty Allah because on the one hand they resist their ego and Satan while on the other they are at the front line of Jihad against the enemies. If they achieve victory, it means that they managed to defeat both enemies – the internal and the external but if they obtain martyrdom, they will meet Almighty Allah in a state that their chest will be decked with the signs of fasting, Jihad and martyrdom. Furthermore, this verse would be applicable to them as per the sayings of the Almighty Allah.

Allah has bought of the believers their lives and (worldly) goods in return for Paradise. They fight in the way of Allah; they kill and are killed….. (Surah: 9, Verse: 111)

Ramadan is the month of blessings and victories, a month of glories and success of the Muslim Ummah. Due to the blessings of Almighty Allah, whenever the believers have entered the Jihadic field in the month of Ramadan, they have achieved victories and their enemies have suffered crushing defeats. The list of Jihadic victories in the month of Ramadan is a long one but some examples are as under.

  1. The battle of Badr under the leadership of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) on 17 Ramadan, 2nd year of Hijra (Islamic Calendar).
  2. The conquest of the holy city of Makkah under the leadership of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) on 20 Ramadan, 8th year of Hijra.
  3. The victory of Spain under the leadership of Tariq bin Ziyad (may Allah’s blessing be upon him) on 28 of Ramadan, 92nd year of the Hijra.
  4. The victory of Amoria under the leadership of Abbasid Caliph Motasim on 6 Ramadan, 223 Hijra. This battle was fought in response to the petition of a Muslim woman (Wantiasa).
  5. The battle of Ain Jalot under the leadership of Saifudin Mahmood Qatz on 24 Ramadan, 658 Hijra. For the first time he defeated the army of Mongols and killed Katabgha, the deputy of Holako.
  6. The conquest of Antakya under the leadership of Zahir Bebris on 14 of Ramadan, 666 Hijra.
  7. The conquest of Belgrade under the leadership of Ottoman Caliph Suliman on 26 Ramadan, 927 Hijra.

The battle of Badr is the first combat of Islamic history. The holy Quran has cited it as Yaum-ul-Forqan (the day of the separation of truth and falsehood). Under the leadership of Abu Sofyan, the trade caravan of Quresh was heading from Syria to Makkah. The Quresh were avowed enemies of Muslims as they had usurped wealth of Muhajireen and never gave up any chance to inflict damage upon the properties and life of believers therefore to weaken the economical strength of enemy, 313 companions of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him) left the holy city of Madina under the leadership of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Though the Islamic army had no preparation for the resultant fight but they faced one thousand heavily armed army of Quresh as per the will and intention of Almighty Allah. The number of soldiers and weapons of enemy were many folds more than Mujahideen. Both armies confronted each other at Badr and the truth succeeded at the end of the battle. Seventy infidels were killed, seventy others imprisoned and the remaining fled towards Makkah. By sustaining 14 casualties, the Muslim army returned to the holy city of Madina with great victory.

It is important to study our great history and learn lessons from our historical incidents. Beside sincerity, piety and obedience we should pay serious attention to the unity of our ranks, self reformation and keep alert against the conspiracies of enemy. Due to the blessings and help of Almighty Allah, the sincere Mujahideen are able to raise the word of Allah, the Almighty and defeat falsehood at any place and any time. They can defeat the enemy and rescue the Islamic Ummah. It is an open secret that the success of Muslim Ummah is linked with sincerity, honesty, obedience, patience, unity, trust in Almighty Allah and piety. Though believers are required to prepare themselves for Jihad according to their own capacities but the success from Almighty Allah comes due to the said criteria.
