Polio Vaccination Campaign Starts in Herat Province

The latest round of the polio vaccination campaign in Herat Province saw the participation of notable individuals, including Alhaj Mawlawi Hayatullah Mohajir Farahi, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, and Mawlawi Mohammad Talib Shahid, Acting Deputy Governor and Head of Public Health. Representatives from various departments, including Information and Culture, Guidance, Hajj and Endowments, as well as officials from international institutions, were also present.

Alhaj Mohajir Farahi, the acting deputy governor, expressed the local administration’s support for the polio vaccination programs, highlighting the comprehensive efforts being made by relevant departments in this regard.

Farahi emphasized that children under the age of five are currently at risk of contracting the polio virus, underscoring the need for collective efforts from institutions, media, and the general public to address this issue effectively.

During the program, Farid Ahmad Ayyubi, Information Officer of the Herat Information and Culture Department, stated that the department is actively collaborating with the media to raise awareness about the dangers of polio, leaving no stone unturned in their efforts.

Mohammad Shoaib Haidari, the Director-General of Mosques at the Herat Guidance, Hajj and Endowments Department, mentioned that all mullahs and imams in mosques are diligently working to educate the public and ensure the vaccination of children above the age of five.

As part of the program, a total of 391,808 children under the age of five in the central area, as well as the Shindand and Injil districts of Herat, will receive the polio vaccine.

In the previous phase, 750,513 children under the age of five were successfully vaccinated in Herat province.
