KABUL, Mar. 13 – The first countrywide polio vaccination programme for 2023 has been started on Monday by the Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in association with international partners.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, “the first National Immunization Days (NIDs) for polio eradication for 2023” aims to vaccinate more than 9.4 million children under the age of five against polio.

According to the ministry, all kids between the ages of 6-59 months will also receive vitamin A injections to boost their immunity.

The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Qalandar Ebad, stated that the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health is “fully dedicated” to eliminating polio from Afghanistan.

“The recent advancements in this area are encouraging. Afghanistan is currently considerably closer to being polio-free. We can eliminate polio from Afghanistan if we work together, he remarked.

“The support of all Afghans, including parents, community leaders, ethnic elders, and religious leaders, is critical to eradicate polio and we want them to take part in the fight against polio to save Afghan children from permanent paralysis,” Ebad added.
