According to a statement of the ARG the Political Deputy Prime Minister, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, attended the opening ceremony of a national program titled “Planting Plants, Eradicating Drought.” The program, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, brought together representatives and officials from various domestic and foreign institutions.
During his speech, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir highlighted the importance of tree planting as a crucial measure to combat the adverse effects of climate change, air pollution, and drought in Afghanistan, ultimately leading to cleaner air. He urged all citizens to assume responsibility in water consumption and actively participate in planting and protecting trees for a better future.
Addressing the challenges faced by Afghanistan, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir emphasized the detrimental impact of war, occupation, and climate change, resulting in increased temperatures, air pollution, and damage to forests and green areas. Additionally, he acknowledged the shortage of clean water in Kabul and other areas, attributing it to the absence of a consistent water supply and canalization system.
Highlighting the efforts of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir announced plans for a water transfer system from Panjshir to Kabul to address the water shortage. He expressed the commitment of the Islamic Emirate to ban deforestation nationwide and revive the affected areas, recognizing the detrimental effects of drought and deforestation on the Afghan economy, leading to poverty and unemployment.
To control water resources and combat drought, Maulvi Abdul Kabir informed the audience about ongoing efforts to construct dams in all districts of the country. He also mentioned the progress made in the construction of the Ghosh Tepe Canal, a crucial project for agricultural development and the strengthening of the nation.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir further highlighted a significant increase of nearly 50 percent in the export of fresh fruits from Afghanistan this year, which is expected to continue growing in the following year. Notably, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and other countries have been the primary destinations for Afghan exports.
