Muhammad Omar was a child born in the home of Mawlawi Ghulam Nabi Sahib in Chah Himmat village of Khakrez district, Kandahar, in the year 1339. Mawlawi Ghulam Nabi was also born in Khakrez, spent in entire life in studies and imamate (prayer leader) and was found his resting place in the famed ‘Taliban Cemetery’ of Kandahar city after passing away in the year 1344 in Nudi village of Dand district.

Orphan Muhammad Omar left for Dehrawod district of Uruzgan province with his uncles at a tender age of five where he began his studies under the supervision of his uncles (Mawlawi Muhammad Anwar and Mawlawi Muhammad Jumma) and completed his primary, secondary and intermediate education in Shahr-e-Kohna religious seminary however his dream of higher education was interrupted by the Soviet invasion.

Mullah Muhammad Omar Mujahid was a young Mujahid who participated in many battles against the soviet invaders in Uruzgan, Kandahar and Zabul provinces and inflicted great material and human losses on the Russian occupiers and their hirelings on Kandahar-Herat highway of Kandahar province.

If conditions deteriorate, they will empty cities, take to the mountains and defend their land and values until their last (breath). It is true that weapons can kill but they (weapons) cannot prevent death”. Indeed, modern weaponry and technology failed to prevent the death and maiming of the occupiers.

Mullah Muhammad Omar Mujahid was a commander-in-chief who empty-handedly declared and launched Jihad against the most superior armed crusader forces of the 21^st century as tens of thousands of invaders met their death or were maimed or suffered great financial and military losses under his command and generalship.

Mullah Muhammad Omar Mujahid led a 12-year Jihad against the crusading occupiers from a mud-hut of our beloved homeland. He did not go to a foreign land during this period, neither did he hold and embrace his children nor did he find the time to rest. He spent his days and nights praying to His Lord Almighty, made Jihadi decisions, strategized the defeat of invaders, ruled over key policy decisions and gave essential orders and decrees regarding the strengthening and better management of the Islamic Emirate.

Pity that a great personality of the Islamic world, a prick in the eye of eastern and western disbelievers, the peak of valor, the pillar of taqwa, the founder of the Islamic Emirate – Omar the Third (Amir ul Mumineen Mullah Muhammad Omar Mujahid) had to say farewell to this weary and fleeting world and left towards everlasting bliss while being away from any doctors in a far-flung rural area of Afghanistan on the 4^th of Sawr 1392, surely to Allah we belong and to Him is the return.

May his soul rest and legacy endure.
