At a press conference hosted at the Government Media and Information Center, officials from the Ministry of National Defense unveiled their annual performance report.

As per the officials, the ministry’s core duties and focuses encompass protecting national principles and sovereignty, backing security and law enforcement endeavors, cooperating with sector-specific agencies, extending aid to those impacted by natural calamities, and ensuring efficient synchronization with the nation’s defense and security institutions.

During the past year, units and divisions of the National Islamic Army executed 813,352 operational missions, which resulted in the confiscation of 588 light weapons, 60 heavy weapons, 1,515 kilograms of explosives, 239 hand grenades, 44 radios, 40 binoculars, 386 vehicles, and 1,982 motorcycles. Additionally, 1,383 landmines were rendered harmless.

To fortify border security and preempt security breaches, a substantial number of battalions, bases, and security outposts have been established nationwide.

The Air Force, over the previous year, conducted 4,218 operational and training flights, refurbished a Black Hawk helicopter, initiated the Air University, and facilitated the conveyance of 77 martyrs and 567 individuals injured in natural disasters.

Moreover, the ministry reported significant milestones in military education and training, encompassing the enrollment of 500 high school graduates into the National Military Academy of Hazrat Maaz bin Jabal, the induction of 120 cadets into the Air University, the recruitment of 390 cadets into the National Military Academy of Hazrat Nu’man bin Sabit, and the graduation of 5,414 cadets from the National Defense University of Hazrat Ubaidah bin Jarrah.

Furthermore, 12,781 personnel completed an array of unit training courses, while 73 medical students graduated from diverse military medical disciplines.

Officials underscored that comprehensive reforms in the financial, administrative, and procurement domains have ushered in complete transparency across all operations. They also highlighted that following recent transformations in Afghanistan, nationwide security has been upheld, combat activities have markedly reduced, and civilian casualties have approached zero.

The ministry also undertook the evaluation of six pivotal legislative documents, subsequently submitting them to the Ministry of Justice for further processing. Additionally, 54 policies and procedures were reviewed to optimize the ministry’s structures and affiliated sectors.

Looking forward, the ministry has delineated several critical priorities for the ongoing year, including the acquisition of weapons, combat tactics, and military gear, executing operations across seven security zones, enhancing the capacities of the National Islamic Army, bolstering intelligence operations, reinforcing coordination with defense and security entities, formulating and revising legislative frameworks, implementing structural reforms, and ameliorating logistical, health, and welfare services.
