Ministry of Interior presents performance report of last year’s activities

KABUL, Mar. 20 – The officials of the Ministry of Interior gave a report on the performance of the previous year during a news conference that was held at the government information and media centre.

 

Abdul Nafi Takour, the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, said: “In past one year, 11,890 criminal incidents took place, 9,444 incidents were discovered, and 2,446 incidents were investigated by investigative forces, and in connection with these incidents, 16,685 suspects were arrested and 1,097 people were prosecuted”.

 

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry, during one year, 106 cases of kidnapping were registered, 44 people were released from the clutches of the kidnappers and 6 others were martyred, 13 of the kidnappers were killed and 190 others were arrested.

 

According to the officials of the ministry, 870 suspects were arrested in connection with destructive and terrorist acts, 103 types of heavy weapons and 10,200 rounds of light weapons and ammunition were seized.

 

The spokesman of the ministry added that 234 cases have been handled by the International Police of the Ministry of Interior, 9 cases of cash smuggling abroad have been prevented, 61 people have been arrested in connection with having fake passports at the ports, and 162 criminal cases are being pursued. It has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through diplomatic channels.

 

Abdul Nafi Takour added that in the technical criminal department, 5105 cases have been sent to judicial institutions for review and investigation, and 659100 people have been registered in the biometric system.

 

According to Takor, during the last one year, the smuggling of 3 million dollars and 16 kilograms of gold out of the country was prevented and 419 people were arrested in connection with the cases.

 

According to the officials of this ministry, 5 thousand beds for the treatment of drug addicts have been built, 543 tons of drugs have been discovered, 1790 hectares of poppy fields have been cleared and 82 thousand drug addicts have been rounded up and introduced to health centers.

 

The spokesman of the ministry added that, within one year, 2 billion 72 million 200 thousand AFN were saved from the contracted projects, and 90 percent of the ministry’s budget, which amounts to 42 billion 958 million 800 thousand AFN, was also consumed.

 

According to the officials, in the police professionalization department, 107 training programs have been organized, 53 thousand 200 policemen have graduated, 785 people have received a certificate of graduation after professional and specialized training, and 16 thousand learners are busy learning educational programs.

 

The officials of this ministry add that, within a year, about 35,000 driving licenses and about 29,000 driving licenses were distributed to applicants, and 1,400 traffic accidents were recorded in the country.
