The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock from Afghanistan and their accompanying delegation convened a meeting with the Uzbekistan Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock to address the preservation of the Amu River in Balkh province.

During the initial phase of the visit, Balkh’s esteemed Governor, Alhaj Muhammad Yusuf Wafa Sahib, provided a comprehensive overview of the Amu River’s deterioration to the visiting delegation. The destruction wrought by the river has inflicted significant harm, submerging homes, lands, public spaces, and agricultural fields. Consequently, residents from Haritaan, Shortape, and Kaldar districts have repeatedly petitioned the provincial government for a resolution. Sheikh Hafzallah, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Faithful, has also issued earnest directives to avert further devastation of this vital water source.

Subsequently, Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, Alhaji Maulvi Ataullah Umar Sahib, articulated the necessity of rehabilitating the degraded 100-kilometer stretch along the border in a standardized and fundamental manner through collaborative efforts between both nations’ officials. This restoration not only alleviates the populace from this predicament but also serves as a preventative measure. Utilizing the expertise of Afghan and Uzbek engineers, technical specialists, and resources is vital for this endeavor.

The Uzbekistani delegation later pledged a comprehensive cooperation to the Afghan Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock and their delegation, underscoring their commitment to promptly initiate this collaborative effort. Given the shared nature of these challenges, expediting the resolution stands as a mutual priority for both countries.
