Measles vaccination campaign begins in Kandahar

KANDAHAR, Dec. 05 – A ten-day vaccination campaign against measles was officially launched at the Immunization Directorate in Kandahar on Saturday in presence of Dr. Musa Jan Sultani, Dr. Abdul Qayyum Pakhla, Head of Emergency Care Unit, UNICEF and WHO representatives.

 

After the inauguration of the campaign, Dr. Musa Jan Sultani, Deputy Director of Kandahar Public Health Department, said that the measles prevention campaign was launched in five provinces. He called on citizens to fully cooperate in this ten day campaign to prevent measles.

Dr. Hizbullah Fitrat said that in this ten day campaign to prevent measles, two hundred and seventy five thousand eight hundred and eight children in all districts besides Kandahar city will be vaccinated against measles. In addition to the vaccine, the two-year-old polio vaccination campaign is also being implemented, he said.

 

Mr Fitrat said the campaign would be implemented by 267 professional teams, adding that over 1,200 people had been employed in the campaign.
