At a media briefing hosted at the Government Media and Information Center, representatives from Kabul Municipality presented a comprehensive overview of their achievements during the preceding year.
According to the disclosed data, a combined total of 125.87 kilometers of primary and secondary roads underwent various enhancements, such as paving, concreting, cobbling, expansion, and construction. Additionally, 73,852 square meters of asphalt roads received repairs, while 38,872 square meters of surfaces were subjected to crack-sealing with bitumen.
Among the notable completed projects were the construction of the 2,500-meter Jabbar Khan Canal and Road, the 273-meter Pul-e-Charkhi checkpoint canal, the 511-meter third segment of the Khairkhana Canal, and the 1,297-meter western portion of the road in Security Town. Progress continues on the ongoing construction of the 2,194-meter canal stretching from the Airport intersection to the Customs Road.
Significant infrastructure undertakings included the erection of a building and an electricity tower in the 18th district, the construction of a perimeter wall in the 17th district, and the establishment of a fuel station within the municipal jurisdiction. Additionally, accomplishments comprised the completion of a women’s market in the 8th district, underground shops in the Qasaba to Panjsad Family area, greenhouses, storage containers, and the drilling of numerous wells across Kabul’s districts.
Structural maintenance initiatives involved the refurbishment of the 8th district office, the creation of new facilities in the 12th district, the installation of stone inscription equipment, and the construction of a mosque and Terakhel Factory facilities situated in the 18th district.
The report further highlighted the installation of 5,000 streetlights and the repair of 9,700 light poles across different city sectors. Additional endeavors encompassed the enhancement of six major intersections, the placement of address signage in all 22 districts, road marking, and the eradication of 2,068 obstacles throughout Kabul.
With collaborative support from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), ongoing efforts include the advancement of 200 projects focusing on street construction, canal development, and park greening. Noteworthy milestones encompass the collection and transportation of 526,080 tons of waste from Kabul’s districts, the cleaning of 57,565 meters of public canals and 405,044 meters of roadside drains.
The report underscored the municipality’s dedication to environmental conservation by noting the production, propagation, and planting of two million plant species within the past year. It also detailed the continuous work on Maranjan Hill Park, Rahman Mena Park, Kazino Park near Pul-e-Charkhi, and the park situated north of Qoba Mosque in the Panjsad Family area.
Regulatory initiatives included the clearance of congested urban areas from street vendors and handcarts, the temporary suspension of 2,626 non-compliant businesses, the identification of 1,057 unlicensed businesses, the issuance of 11,957 business permits across all districts, the registration of 102 markets and 11 fuel stations, and the facilitation of coal distribution to residents during winter.
Environmental regulatory measures encompassed the closure of 625 high-rise buildings for non-compliance with air filtration standards, the confiscation of 20,577 kilograms of expired food and substandard cleaning products, the cessation of wastewater discharge from 825 high-rise buildings and residences into the Kabul River, and the issuance of 8,872 health certification cards for businesses.
Urban planning achievements included the development of detailed plans, proposals for commercial and residential areas, the issuance of 248 building permits, the approval of 22 standardized building designs, and the regulation of 3,095 construction violations across all 22 districts of Kabul.
These accomplishments mirror Kabul Municipality’s steadfast commitment to urban development, infrastructure improvement, environmental stewardship, and public service delivery throughout the past year.
