A one-day national conference titled “Impacts of Climate Change on Society” was held in Kabul to address solutions for the challenges and crises of climate change in Afghanistan, as well as to assess the damage caused by its adverse effects in various provinces of the country.
During the conference, Mawlawi Mutiul Haq Khals, the Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency, emphasized that the international community should recognize Afghans as integral members of the global community and cease discriminatory practices. He highlighted that throughout the years of conflict in Afghanistan, various prohibited weapons were employed by invaders, leading to significant challenges for the Afghan populace.
Furthermore, he urged global citizens not to politicize environmental and humanitarian issues, called for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Afghanistan, advocated for the initiation of 32 coordinated environmental projects valued at over $800 million in Afghanistan, and extended an invitation to represent the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in international environmental gatherings.
Apart from officials of the Islamic Emirate, the conference saw the participation of Reza Otunbayeva, the UN Special Representative in Afghanistan, Mrs. Veranika, the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union, and representatives from national and international organizations.
