BALKH, Mar. 29 – Better water management is one of the most important goals for the growth and self-sufficiency of the country, which is also a priority of the Islamic Emirate, and one of the good examples is the historical canal of Qoshtipe, which is 285 km long, 100 m wide and 8.5 m deep and to be inaugurated by Mullah Abdul Ghani, brother of the Deputy Prime Minister tomorrow.

Qushitipa canal is located in Kaldar district of Balkh, which starts from the Amu Darya River and crosses the long plains of Hairatan and ends in Dawlatabad and Aqcha district of Jawzjan in Andkhoy district of Faryab province. Completion of the project work of this channel is estimated 6 years, one year for the first phase and 5 years for the other two phases of this channel.

This project will not only make Afghanistan self-sufficient in wheat yields, but also enable it to export to other countries. The project is also the work of dozens of agricultural and production farms.

The purpose of this canal is to irrigate about 550,000 hectares of land in the surrounding areas and has the ability to transfer 650 cubic meters of water per second and the height of the gutter is 6.5 meters.

The canal has three stages. The first stage, which is 108 km long and starts from the Amu Darya River and reaches Dawlatabad district of Balkh.

The second and third stages, which are 177 km long, start from Dawlatabad district of Balkh and end with passing through Aqcha Jawzjan district to Andkhoy district of Faryab province.
