High level Iranian judicial delegation meets Foreign Minister

KABUL, Jan. 20 – According to Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal the deputy spokesman of the foreign ministry, Dr. Gharib Abadi, the deputy of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, leading a high level judicial delegation paid a visit to IEA-Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. Welcoming the delegation, FM Muttaqi extended gratitude for the hospitality of millions of Afghan refugees residing in Iran, and highlighted the ongoing political, security and economic landscape of the country.

The meeting also focused on addressing the issues of the prisoners between the two countries, implementing the treaty of the extradition of prisoners, the discussing alternative mechanisms for the Afghans sentenced to death, and the cooperation with each other in the legal and criminal areas regarding Afghan refugees.

FM Muttaqi asked to facilitate the political and consular delegations to meet the prisoners in order to assess the situation of the Afghan prisoners and address their problems. Following, the head of the Iranian delegation, Mr. Gharib Abadi, expressed satisfaction with measures taken by Islamic Emirate to ensure the security and counter narcotics.

Mr. Gharib Abadi said that We have realized that the government of Afghanistan is carrying out a policy of decisively fighting against drugs, which fortunately has reduced the level of drug trafficking in Iran compared to the past, which is a positive step.

In regards with the torture of Afghans in Iran, Mr. Abadi said that we have adopted a very serious position thereof and by sharing necessary coordination and information, requisite measures will be taken in the future, pledging to cooperate and coordinate in judicial fields.

This visit a followup of bilateral meetings, which last year a delegation of IEA visited Tehran for the same purpose.
