During a press briefing conducted at the Government Media and Information Center, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs unveiled the ministry’s annual performance report.

 

The officials outlined significant accomplishments, such as strengthening diplomatic ties with both regional and global partners, intensifying efforts to bolster the industrial sector, attracting foreign investments in the mining industry, solidifying relationships with allied nations for executing economic projects, securing humanitarian assistance, engaging with donors to recommence stalled projects, and facilitating dialogues on crucial Afghan matters on international platforms.

 

They also highlighted the extensive work carried out throughout the year to supervise Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in neighboring countries, ensuring that Afghan diplomats adhered to universally accepted norms and principles.

 

Emphasizing the diplomatic prudence of the Islamic Emirate, officials noted substantial advancements in the lifting of sanctions and the removal of certain Afghan officials from international blacklists.

 

Over the past year, a significant number of Afghan diplomats were stationed in countries such as Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Doha, and the United Arab Emirates, with all diplomats receiving formal accreditation from their respective host nations.

 

Senior officials further underscored that numerous high-level delegations from countries like China, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, as well as senior representatives from the European Union and various international organizations, visited Afghanistan. These visits entailed bilateral and multilateral discussions with high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate on critical national and international issues.

 

In terms of fostering enhanced bilateral cooperation, the Islamic Emirate facilitated 46 official visits for its officials over the past year. These visits enabled senior officials to participate in international conferences held in Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran. Additionally, 25 significant meetings were convened with various nations and international organizations.

 

The Ministry detailed its ongoing efforts to strengthen economic collaboration, highlighting progress on major economic and infrastructural projects such as the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline, TAP (Transmission and Pipeline) project, Noor Al-Jihad Substation, and railway initiatives. Collaborative endeavors with Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Iran, and China in trade and transit facilitation were also acknowledged.

 

Moreover, the Ministry reported success in attracting foreign investments in the mining sector, organizing six trade exhibitions in Kabul, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to showcase domestic products, securing 1,681 capacity-building scholarships from China, the UAE, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, and 1,174 academic scholarships from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and Qatar.

 

Additionally, humanitarian aid from Uzbekistan, China, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Indonesia was obtained for individuals impacted by recent earthquakes in Herat.

 

The Ministry processed 283,210 documents and certificates, issued visas to 41,959 foreign nationals, distributed 97,556 passports, and renewed 426,141 passports over the past year. It also implemented a unified and centralized visa issuance system across 26 diplomatic and consular missions, established a centralized Road pass system in 8 missions, and provided passport services in 19 diplomatic and consular offices.

 

Furthermore, the Ministry launched and operationalized passport issuance services at five airports, eight border crossings, and seven provinces. An agreement was signed with the Afghanistan Statistics and Information Authority to improve services related to the issuance of electronic ID cards, birth certificates, and identity verification documents, aimed at expediting service delivery.

 

Officials concluded by highlighting capacity-building initiatives conducted over the past year, which included organizing training programs for 250 staff members and diplomats at both central and provincial levels, with 285 individuals graduating from the Ministry’s Institute of Diplomacy.
