KABUL, Mar. 02 – The representative of the European Union for Afghanistan, Thomas Nicholson, and the Head of the Delegation of the Union, Rafaela Avedis, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Kandahar province, while the deputy Governor of Kandahar was also present, said a statement of the foreign ministry.

Minister Muttaqi, thanked the European Union for the humanitarian aid and added that there is a lot of work to be done to bring Afghanistan and the European Union closer together and the European nations should be encouraged to open embassies in Afghanistan.

The Deputy Governor of Kandahar Mawlwi Hayatullah Mubarak asked the representatives of the European Union to cooperate in education and training, the construction of a treatment center for mental patients, the construction of dams and the health sector.

According to Niklasson, the international community acknowledges that Afghanistan’s security has improved and that the fight against corruption is a serious one.

Additionally, he promised that they would present the world with a positive image of Afghanistan.
