Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, engaged in discussions with Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the Special Representative for Detainee Affairs and former US Special Representative for Afghanistan, along with his accompanying delegation.

During this meeting, conversations centered around the bilateral ties between Afghanistan and the United States, the release of detainees, and the provision of consular services to Afghan nationals residing in the United States.

The Foreign Affairs Minister warmly received the delegation and viewed their presence in Kabul as a positive development for bilateral relations. Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi highlighted the Afghan government’s commitment to fostering constructive relationships with all parties in accordance with its well-balanced foreign policy.

Emphasizing the significance of dialogue, the Foreign Affairs Minister stressed the importance of Afghanistan and the United States working together to address various issues. He underscored the need for both nations to overcome the lingering impacts of the two-decade-long conflict and cultivate favorable political and economic ties.

Adam Boiler, the US President’s Special Representative for Detainee Affairs, commended the advancements made in the prisoner exchange between Afghanistan and the United States as a crucial stride towards building mutual trust. He lauded the efforts against narcotics and the bolstering of security measures in Afghanistan.
