Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi  engaged in a phone conversation with Foreign Minister Asad Hassan Al-Shaibani of the Syrian Transitional Government.

During the call, the Afghan Foreign Minister extended congratulations to his Syrian counterpart on his victory and conveyed well wishes for the success of the new government. Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi also commended Mr. Asad Hassan Al-Shaibani on his appointment as Foreign Minister, expressing optimism for a fruitful tenure.

Following the victory, Muttaqi lauded the Syrian government’s commitment to amnesty and good governance, expressing a desire for the establishment of regular diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Syria. He highlighted the depth of suffering endured by Afghans over nearly fifty years, fostering a nuanced understanding of Syria’s current circumstances.

In response, the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government expressed gratitude for the call and noted that the Afghan struggle against colonialism spanning two decades provided valuable insights for learning. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani emphasized the enduring grievances of the Syrian people after almost half a century of turmoil under the previous regime.

Furthermore, he expressed optimism for the expansion of bilateral relations and anticipated future meetings between delegations from both nations.
