A special meeting of the High Commission for disaster mangement convened at the Marble Palace, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, on Saturday with primary focus to discuss emergency assistance measures.

Commencing the proceedings, Honorable Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Chairman of the High Commission for disaster managment, expressed deep regret for the losses suffered by fellow countrymen in the recent floods affecting Baghlan, Ghor, Badakhshan, Faryab, and Takhar provinces and offered prayers for the patience of the affected individuals and a swift recovery for the injured.

Mr. Baradar Akhund acknowledged that Afghanistan is a country prone to natural disasters, often resulting in tremendous hardships for its people. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the relevant institutions to promptly deliver assistance to citizens in times of such calamities, emphasizing the need for thorough preparedness to provide timely relief.

Committees have been formed under the leadership of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of State for Disaster Managment.

These committees were tasked with providing emergency aid, rescue operations, coordination of aid efforts, healthcare provision to the injured, funeral arrangements, burial services, and the procurement and distribution of food supplies to the flood-affected citizens in Baghlan, Ghor, Badakhshan, Faryab, and Takhar provinces.

The leadership of the High Commission instructed the ministries and agencies represented in the aforementioned committees to swiftly reach the affected areas and utilize available resources to assist the injured citizens.
