KABUL, Nov. 07 – The Economic Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met with the Minister of Energy of Iran, Mr. Ali Akbar Mehrabian, during his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Both sides discussed water management, Iran’s technical cooperation in the field of electricity production in Afghanistan, as well as discussed and talked about the increase of joint cooperation investments, the use of advanced irrigation systems in agriculture, and drought relief in both neighboring countries.
Honorable Baradar Akhund said that the recent droughts have had a bad effect on the water resources of the region, especially in Afghanistan, due to which the surface and underground water levels have decreased significantly and in many areas, people inside the country have been forced to leave their places and some others have been forced to migrate again.
The economic deputy Prime Minister asked the Iranian side to share its experience and technical cooperation with Afghanistan in the field of domestic electricity production as Afghanistan, which has just come out of war and occupation, has huge resources in the field of hydropower, wind, solar, and coal power generation.
The Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Akbar Mehrabian, assured cooperation on investment and proper management and use of water to the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, on the joint fight against drought on the part of Iran and Afghanistan, in addition to Iran’s technical cooperation in the field of electricity production in Afghanistan.
