KABUL, Feb. 02 – An addict treatment hospital with a capacity of 5,000 beds has been opened in Kabul.

The inauguration ceremony was by attended minister of interior, foreign minister and senior members of the Islamic Emirate.

Speaking at the ceremony, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the IEA, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi said that corruption and narcotics are a “legacy” of the previous regime and that the Islamic Emirate is trying to root out this phenomenon.

Addressing the ceremony, the acting Minister of Interior Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani said the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate ordered that treatment be provided to all drug addicts in the country.

Meanwhile the deputy PM of the IEA, Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, called on the international community to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The officials of the Interior Ministry called the assistance of national and international organizations important for the elimination of narcotics.

It is estimated that between 3 to 5 million people are addicted to drugs in Afghanistan.

Anti narcotic forces of the Islamic Emirate have so far detained around 4,500 people on charges of drug dealing.
