KABUL, Dec. 01 – Mullah Bakhtur Rahman Sharaft, along with his delegation from the Afghanistan Railway Authority, met with Mr. Atta Muradov, the Director General of the Railway Authority of Turkmenistan, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, says Afghanistan railway authority in a statement on X.
During the meeting, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions regarding bilateral cooperation in the railway sector. Mr. Sharaf expressed his appreciation for the railway cooperation extended by Turkmenistan and emphasized the need for increased standardization. He proposed the establishment of a joint committee comprising officials from both railway administrations to enhance coordination and effectiveness.
Furthermore, Mr. Ata Muradov provided an overview of the collaborative activities between the railway agencies of the two countries and expressed their willingness to work together.
It was agreed during the meeting to form a joint committee consisting of railway officials from both nations, with monthly meetings scheduled to improve transportation, address traders’ issues, and strengthen coordination. Additionally, a technical delegation from Turkmenistan will visit Afghanistan in the coming month, accompanied by Afghan technical experts, to assess the Andkhoi-Shaberghan and Turghondai-Herat routes and develop a construction plan.
In addition to these decisions, the Turkmen side expressed their readiness to train Afghan students in railway-related fields. Specific details regarding the duration and number of students will be shared with the Afghan side as soon as possible.
It is noteworthy that Mullah Bakhtur Rahman Sharaf, the Director General of the Afghanistan Railway Authority, and his delegation visited Turkmenistan on an official invitation. The bilateral meetings are expected to continue for two more days.
