Deputy Minister of Railway Attends 34th UIC Meeting in Turkey

The 34th Regional Congress of the International Union of Railways (UIC) took place in Turkey on November 28, in Istanbul where representatives from 16 member countries participated in this congress. During the event, Mr. Alain Beiraud, the General Director of the UIC, delivered an insightful presentation on regional cooperation and accomplishments within the railway sector over the previous year.

 

Subsequently, Mr. Veysi Kurt, the General Director of Turkish Railways, and the Head of the Regional Association of the Middle East (RAME) Office underscored the critical need for railway development and standardization, highlighting the importance of addressing existing obstacles and challenges in the transportation of commercial goods.

 

In continuation, Mawlawi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, the Deputy Minister of Railways from the Ministry of Public Works, expressed, “Despite enduring persistent challenges over the past decades, the priority for Afghan Railways remains the construction and standardization of railway infrastructure at both national and international levels.” He reassured regional representatives of Afghan Railways’ dedication to enhancing railway development, service quality, and ensuring effective maintenance to uphold strong trade relations.

 

During the congress, representatives from the International Union of Railways pledged to extend invitations to Afghan Railways personnel for future participation in specialized training courses offered by the union.

 

Furthermore, detailed annual reports on recent activities, achievements, ongoing projects, and future strategies were presented by representatives from the International Union of Railways and the Middle East Regional Association. The Deputy Directorate of Railways from the Ministry of Public Works provided a concise overview of recent Afghan Railways advancements, current projects, achievements, and forthcoming priorities for the next three years, which received a warm reception from the attendees.
