KABUL, Jan.26 – Hundreds of Afghans accompanied by a large numbers of women converged on Kabul to take part in a demonstration Wednesday in support of the Hijab (a head covering scarf worn by Muslim women in public) and to call for a formal recognition of the government of Islamic Emirate.

The demonstrators insisted that Afghan women had to strongly defend and protect religious and national values, chanting slogans and calling for unfreezing Afghanistan’s frozen assets.

The demonstrators gathered outside the US Embassy in Kabul and raised slogans, “we strongly support our government.” we defend our national values.” calling for the recognition of the new caretaker government.

They said they had to preserve their culture, and that they refused the imposition of western culture, demanding their rights from the world.

They called for the release of the Afghans’ frozen assets belonging to Afghanistan, its widows and orphans.

The U.S. has frozen nearly $ 10 billion in assets belonging to the Afghans since the US-backed regime was toppled by the Islamic Emirate.

This comes as a former UN envoy to Afghanistan demanded to unfreeze Afghanistan’s frozen assets.

Similarly, a number of US officials have asked the Joe Biden administration to allow the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets and to avoid crises.

The demonstration drew positive reactions from within and outside the country, with all Afghans calling the protest by Afghan women a positive step and urging the international community to meet the legitimate demands of Afghans.

The protest came days after some women disrespected the Hijab and set it alight, prompting many Afghans to take part in today’s protest.
