Sheikh-ul-Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, recently signed a contract today for the drilling of two gas wells in the Yatim Taq area of Jawzjan province, says Hamyun Afghan the spokeman of ministry of mines and petroleum.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Zia-ur-Rehman al-Aryubi, Deputy Minister of Planning and Policy, representatives from the mining company, and the media.
During the event, the Acting Minister expressed satisfaction with the transparent process of signing the contract with a Turkish company. Among four competing companies, Turkish Ambassador Sondaj Company emerged as the winner with the most suitable and lowest bid of $7.5 million. The company is committed to completing the drilling of these wells, reaching a depth of 1650 meters, within a year. The wells are expected to produce 300,000 cubic meters of gas per day, generating a daily revenue of $60,000. The extracted gas will be utilized for electricity generation and other purposes.
The Acting Minister also mentioned upcoming contracts for additional gas wells in the country. Furthermore, he highlighted foreign investment interest amounting to one billion dollars in the Toti Maidan gas fields. Additionally, he discussed the extensive Herat oil field, spanning 23,000 square kilometers, comprising three zones and eleven blocks.
The Acting Minister emphasized that apart from creating job opportunities, the extracted gas will contribute to economic development through household use, trade unions, electricity generation, and utilization in the CNG and glass factories. Notably, the current contract for two wells at $7.5 million demonstrates improved management and enhanced transparency compared to the previous administration’s contract for a single well worth $8.2 million.
