KANDAHAR, Feb. 18 – The work of cleaning Zahir Shahi canal in Kandahar province has started, says ministry of water and energy of the IEA in a statement. 
The cleaning works of Zahir Shahi Canal in Kandahar Province have started in the presence of Kandahar Governor Mr. Haji Muhammad Yusuf Wafa, head of Arghandab sub river basin Mr. Mulla Syed Muhammad Sharaft and some other local officials of the mentioned province.
At the opening meeting of the canal, the head of Arghandab river sub river basin Mr. Mulla Syed Mohammad Sharaf said that Zahir Shahi canal is 79 kilometers long and 4 meters deep, which is filled with sediments, soil and gravel due to past floods and there is no ability to pass water properly, and the cleaning work has been officially started by the committee formed under the name of “Leadership of Emergency Services” on the basis of the special instructions of His Highness Ameer ul Momineen Sheikh Hibatullah Hafizahullah.
