Officials from Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat shared a comprehensive report on the company’s activities and accomplishments with the media during a press conference held at the Government Information and Media Center on Sunday, 28 Salwaga 1403.
Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, the Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), highlighted significant progress made in development, infrastructure enhancement, power distribution, operational matters, programs, and the import of electricity from neighboring nations over the past ten months.
During the press conference, Mr. Omar disclosed the successful completion and operational launch of the Noorul Jahad substation, a project costing 3.29 million US dollars, which led to an increase in the number of electricity consumers from 120,000 to 150,000. Additionally, he mentioned the resumption of pending works on the large-scale CASA-1000 project financed by the World Bank, set to be finalized within two years.
Further accomplishments included the completion of the Parandi Power Generation Dam in Panjshir province, the establishment of the 500 kV Sheberghan-Dasht-Alwan-Arghandi power transmission line, the 220 kV Ghazni-Kandahar power transmission line, the 110 kV Kandahar substation line, the construction of substations in four districts of Herat, and the initiation and continuation of remaining projects for the power distribution network to 21 villages in Badghis.
Mr. Omar also noted the ongoing construction and restoration efforts related to the Maidan Wardak, Chak, Kunar Managi, and Gereshk power generation dams, as well as the establishment of power generation facilities nationwide, with several crucial projects already completed. He outlined plans for six improvement projects currently in the equipment preparation phase, which, once implemented, will significantly reduce electricity and energy losses.
The CEO of Breshna Sherkat highlighted the completion of the analysis and evaluation of 14 investment projects aimed at constructing power plants with a combined capacity of approximately 505 MW. In terms of financial transactions, Mr. Omar reported a total revenue of 31,531 million Afghanis from electricity sales over the current year, along with payments of 227 million US dollars to neighboring countries and 28.7 million US dollars and 247.8 million Afghanis to domestic power generation firms for electricity procurement.
Breshna Sherkat officials confirmed the signing of 206 electricity-related project agreements valued at more than 3.5 billion Afghanis during the current year, with some projects already finalized and others in progress. Furthermore, bilateral power purchase agreements have been inked with Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan for the year 2025, while negotiations are ongoing for a similar agreement with Iran.
