BALKH , Aug. 02 – The sunflowers plantation has increased by 30 percent this year, as compare to the last three years, according to local officials of agriculture department.

The provincial head of agriculture, irrigation, and livestock of Balkh province, Mawlavi Shamsuddin Khalid says the harvests of sunflower have increased by 30% than last three years.

This year about 500 acres of land planted in many districts of Balkh and each acre produced aboit 600 kg of sunflower seeds.

This year’s production of sunflower in Balkh reaches 300 thousand kilograms and last year this figure was 210 thousand kilograms he added.

Two farmers, Abdul Saboor and Enayatullah, who are busy growing sunflowers in the Dehdadi district of Balkh, said that planting sunflowers has been developed in Balkh for the past three years, and the yield of this plant has become more fruitful in Balkh compared to previous years.
