An agreemenr has been reached between the Ministry of Water and Energy and Mes Aynak Contracting Company (MCC-JCL) to undertake feasibility, geophysics, and geotechnical studies for the Baghdara Dam.
The signing ceremony took place today, at the ministry of water and energy conference hall. The agreement was formalized between the Acting Minister of Water and Energy, His Excellency Alhaj Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, and the Director of Mes Aynak Contracting Company (MCC-JCL) from Logar Province, Mr. Song Wenbing.
The Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr. Zhou Zheng, and the Deputy Minister of Mines and Petroleum, His Excellency Sheikh Zia-ur-Rahman, along with several heads of the Ministry of Water and Energy, were present during the signing.
During the ceremony, the Acting Minister of Water and Energy highlighted the significance of the Baghdara Dam in supplying the necessary electricity for the Mes Aynak project in Logar province.
He stressed that the implementation of the Baghdara Dam scheme will represent a significant milestone in the realm of collaborative efforts between Afghanistan and China. Mr. Mansour underscored the advancement of cooperation between the two nations and assured the Chinese Ambassador and MCC Company officials that Afghanistan is currently open for investment from all fronts, with the Islamic Emirate committed to facilitating cooperation in this regard.
Concurrently, Deputy Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Sheikh Ziaur Rahman, expressed that Afghanistan boasts abundant mineral resources and that the ground has been primed for utilizing these resources for the country’s progress and growth. Subsequently, the Ambassador of China and the CEO of MCC Company lauded the strong ties between Afghanistan and China, deeming the signing of the agreement as a positive stride in the ongoing collaboration between the two countries.
As per the terms of the agreement, the company is set to conduct feasibility, geophysical, and geotechnical studies within an 8-month timeframe, with the Ministry of Water and Energy pledging cooperation in accordance with the agreement’s stipulations.
