During a media briefing at the Government Media and Information Center, representatives of the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) presented their annual performance review.

 

Over the previous year, ARCS aided a total of 1,430,036 individuals affected by natural disasters and vulnerable communities with cash, food, and non-food essentials. The assistance included provisions like flour, cooking oil, beans, rice, sugar, salt, tea, macaroni, biscuits, chickpeas, tents, tarpaulins, and utensils, tailored to those most in need.

 

Notably, ARCS extended humanitarian aid to 22,735 flood-affected individuals in Baghlan province and emphasized healthcare service delivery as a primary focus. Through a network comprising 46 permanent hospitals, 36 subsidiary clinics, 65 emergency health teams, 36 mobile health units, and 45 mass immunization camps, essential healthcare services were disbursed nationwide, benefiting 5,894,332 individuals, including 2,212 children diagnosed with congenital heart conditions.

 

Moreover, the organization cared for 1,495 orphans across five orphanages in Kabul, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, and Herat. Vocational training programs in tailoring, embroidery, carpet weaving, and handicrafts were provided to 8,110 widows through these orphanages.

 

Following directives from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, ARCS identified and supported 30,543 eligible beggars with regular monthly cash aid out of 116,259 individuals collected. Additionally, financial assistance of 53,875,812 AFN was dispersed to beggars in the past year, with 24,000 orphaned families receiving 204 million AFN in aid.

 

ARCS also erected a new orphanage in the northeastern region and installed solar power systems in several branches across different provinces, costing a total of 4.5 million AFN. The organization’s membership expanded by 3,649 members, and training workshops were conducted for volunteers and staff.

 

Furthermore, 54,879 children received religious and computer education at 35 educational centers managed by ARCS. Lastly, ARCS facilitated medical treatment abroad for 19 individuals in Germany, who have returned post successful treatments.
