The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum reports that the Qashkari block of the Amu oil basin supplies 10 to 15 percent of the country’s oil needs, with the remainder being imported from neighboring and regional countries.

According to the Ministry’s data, Afghanistan possesses oil and gas resources spanning over 200,000 square kilometers. Recently, oil extraction has commenced in the Qashkari block of the Amu oil field, and the Herat oil field has been opened for foreign investment.
