In an important development, the Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Alhaj Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, officially signed agreements for five lead and zinc blocks located in the Yakawlang district of Bamyan province. These agreements involve Afghan German, Al-Harameen, Gamma Eagle, Kandahar Khogyani, and Musa Sultan companies, amounting to a total value of 1,797,059,500 Afghanis and covering an area of 3.863786 square kilometers. The signing ceremony was attended by Engineer Wahidullah Halimi, the General Director of the Office of the Ministry’s Chief Advisor, Alhaj Meraj Mohammad Meraj, and representatives from the contracting companies.

Addressing the awarded mining contracts, the Acting Minister highlighted that these agreements are set for a five-year term, with the potential for renewal based on adherence to mining regulations and procedures. He emphasized that 100% of the processing must be conducted within the country, with provisions for contract termination if commitments are not met.

Furthermore, the Minister underscored the social impact of these projects, noting that they would create employment opportunities for numerous young individuals, both directly and indirectly. Notably, the Islamic Emirate retains a 51% stake in these mining activities.

It is noteworthy that specific arrangements were made for individual blocks, such as the Sar Dargashtak region allocated to Musa Sultan Mining and Processing Company in exchange for infrastructure projects in Uruzgan province, and the Pami Kakrak mining area awarded to Afghan German Bakhtar Company in return for developments in Kandahar province. The Sarsorkhak mining area also saw agreements with Gamma Eagle Mining Company for infrastructure projects in Khaf-Herat and Maidan Wardak Provincial University.
